Formulating and finding higher-order interference

COVID-19 information for PI Residents and Visitors

Conference Date:
Wednesday, August 3, 2016 (All day) to Friday, August 5, 2016 (All day)
Scientific Areas:
Quantum Foundations

As first noticed by Rafael Sorkin, one possible way in which quantum theory could break
down would be the discovery of interference between three or more mutually exclusive
possibilities. Actually searching for this in experiment requires an entirely operational
formulation. At this workshop existing proposals for such formulations will be discussed,
and the participants will work on overcoming their shortcomings, with a particular focus
on eliminating the unrealistic requirement of sharp measurements. There will also be
discussions on where to look for such interference, whether any sensible theories predict
it, and what its implications would be.
