Information update on Coronavirus (COVID-19)

The World Health Organization has declared novel coronavirus COVID-19 a pandemic. Perimeter Institute continues to monitor the situation and has issued proactive measures – outlined below – to ensure the safety and well-being of its community.

In accordance with directions from the provincial government, Perimeter Institute will be shut down as of Tuesday, March 24 at 6 pmAfter this date, students, researchers, and admin staff will not have access to any parts of the building until further notice.


Current risk

The current risk of COVID-19 in Canada is low for the general population. There is an increased risk for more severe outcomes for people: aged 65 and over; with compromised immune systems; and/or with underlying medical conditions. Please check Public Health Canada for ongoing updates.

Perimeter residents

In accordance with directions from the provincial government, Perimeter Institute will be shut down as of Tuesday, March 24 at 6 pm. After this date, students, researchers, and admin staff will not have access to any parts of the building until further notice.  

Visitors

Effective March 12, 2020, Perimeter Institute’s visitor programs have been suspended until further notice. Perimeter staff will contact scheduled visitors directly to provide cancellation details.

Conferences, seminars, colloquia, and events

Effective March 12, 2020, Perimeter Institute will not be holding any in-person conferences, seminars, colloquia, workshops, or events until further notice. Previously scheduled activities will be postponed, cancelled, or continued virtually. Refer to individual conference and event pages for the latest information.

Health concerns

There is no vaccine or treatment to prevent COVID-19. Most people with common coronavirus illness will recover on their own.

If you travelled to or through a Level 3 country, you must self-isolate for 14 days after your return.

If you reside with, or have been in close contact with, an individual who has travelled to or through a Level 3 country in the last 14 days, you must monitor your health and stay at home for 14 days following contact.

If you have travelled to any country, or been in close contact with others that have travelled, and develop symptoms of COVID-19, you must self-isolate at home as quickly as possible, call local public health authorities immediately, and notify Perimeter’s People and Culture team.
